How to Store Floor Mats When You're Not Using Them

How to store floor mats when you're not using them .jpgFloor mats are a wonderful addition to any building. They provide a way to keep your floors clean by picking up excess dirt as people walk through the doorway, and they are a great option for keeping employees safe in a commercial kitchen. Additionally, mats can help promote your brand by displaying a logo or slogan, and because they can be replaced fairly easily, they can help keep high-traffic areas looking as good as new.

That said, sometimes you will only need a particular floor mat occasionally, or perhaps your furniture arrangement will be changing for the holidays, which will require removing one or more mats. Whatever the case may be, storing your floor mats is sometimes necessary, and when the time comes, it is important to know the proper way to put your mats away.

Below we have put together a list to help you store your mats in the best way possible, so you can continue using your mats after removing them from storage without any issues.

Roll Onto Solid Core

One of the ideal ways to store mats is to roll them. This will allow you to keep the mat under a piece of furniture, on a shelf, or propped up in the corner.

However, a mat rolled on itself with no core to support it can often become warped or creased. This can cause the mat to bubble up or make the corners pop up in such a way that those walking across the mat may trip over the uneven surface.

For this reason, it is crucial to store rolled mats on a solid, cylindrical core in order to maintain the shape of your mat.

Lay Flat

Another great way to store mats is to simply lay them flat. Of course, this does take up a bit more space, but if you are working with a smaller mat, you may be able to lay it under a couch or shelf. Storing more than one mat? Why not stack them on top of one another so they can all lay flat? This will keep them out of the way, but will ensure the mats retain their crease-free shape for future use.

Hang Over a Rack

The last storage solution on our list requires that you have a large, sturdy rack available to use. To use this method, simply hang your mat (or mats) over the rack and keep the rack in a closet or storage room until your mats are needed once again. This is yet another great way to keep your mats in tip-top condition while they sit in storage.

Invest in Quality Materials

Of course, the first step to successfully storing your floor mats is to invest in mats made from quality materials. This will help ensure the mats don't crack or break during storage and emerge looking just as good as they did when they went into storage. The ability to store without fear of breakage is only one of the many reasons to invest in high-quality mats, but it is certainly high on the list.
